It's been sooo long!

I can't believe how long I let this go...even if I have all of two viewers ;)
Still, having a baby isn't easy and I applaud those women who seem to take it all in stride as they keep on producing work.

Well, I am finally getting back into a work rhythm and though still tinkering with them (that last 10% of a painting is so tricky, letting go used to be easier!), above are the latest paintings coming out of my studio. They are both small oil paintings -- I wanted to get moving and figured small was a good way to start. My next piece is twice as big. But no pics for that yet...

BFA Exhibition at CCA

Hi Everyone!

So I think this marks the beginning of the end; although I have one more class next semester, my senior show starts this coming week. I have seven paintings in the show that kind of span the work of my senior year so it's interesting to see how it's consistent yet it's definitely been evolving. Some pieces are kind of a hybrid because I began them last semester and finished them only recently.

The reception is on Tuesday, 5:30-7:30p in the SF CCA campus (1111 Eighth Street) -- please drop by if you have a chance. Three other artists are exhibiting at the same time so it's kind of like a group show, except we all have a chance to show most of our work. John's work, like mine, is figurative and in oils, while Leanne paints landscapes using images she runs through a Flash program...sounds complicated but the end result is very cool. Emily is actually showing sculptures, though she's also a painter, and the installation was still in progress when I left. Very cool though, you'll want to check it out.

Lastly, the group show I was in at Hatch Gallery just closed. We had an amazing amount of time and the show's dates expanded to three weeks so we had a chance to participate in the Art Murmur (I almost got claustrophobic, it was p-a-c-k-e-d!). Thanks again to Adam at Hatch and to Michele (our professor) for getting us the show.

I've been MIA from my own blog, sorry about that! Art school and assorted personal events have kept me running around like a crazy woman.

At any rate, I am getting ready for another group show in Jack London Square so I'll post new information on this in the next few weeks. I hope everyone can make the opening --it'll be in a new gallery opening up in the same building as the last show. I promise you it was a complete coincidence!

Hi Everyone,

I will be participating in a group exhibition this coming August, to be hosted by Jack London Square Realty. I would love it if you came for the opening, Saturday August 11th, 2007 from 6 to 8 pm. The office will also be open from noon to 4 p.m. that day for those who have children or if you have other commitments later.

You'll be able to see much of the art I've posted on this blog in person -- most of it is for sale so come and start your art collection or add to it. There are two other artists showing with me: Teresa Brazen and Alanna Spence. There are links to their websites in this blog.

The Wall Street Journal noted about a week ago that student art is very big for collectors and I agree that this is a good time to build relationships with artists whose work might be a lot more pricey in a few years' time. We also have some small, inexpensive drawings and paintings for those with limited budgets.

You don't have to buy to come and support us though, we'd love to have as many people visit the show as possible -- so invite your friends and family. If you want to arrange a separate date to visit, email me at gabriela.art@gmail.com
